He received his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Wisconsin in 2004 advised by Dr. Jack Rutledge. When he wasn't marching with the University of Wisconsin Marching Band, he was working in the lab of John Parrish. After several years managing a bovine IVF laboratory and a brief stint flow sorting bovine semen, he returned to the UW to pursue graduate work advised by Dr. John Parrish. In his thesis work he investigates the effects of heat stress and oxidative damage on sperm nuclear shape and testicular gene expression in the boar and bull. Josh joined the ReproQuest team in March 2008.
