St. Joseph, Michigan - ASABE, The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers recently announced that ReproQuest, Inc. has won an AE50 award.

ReproQuest, Inc. developed the RQ800™ Swine Semen Packaging System, deemed one of the year's most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries. The RQ800™ will be featured in the January/February 2012 special AE50 issue of ASABE's magazine Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World.

"We are very pleased to have the RQ800™ Swine Semen Packaging System selected as an AE50 recipient", said Reid Formo, VP of Engineering and Technical Services at ReproQuest. "Our development goals were to achieve fast cycle times, accurate dosing, reliability and to be user friendly. ™Historically, in the industry packaging systems have operated between 600 and 1,400 doses per hour with an accuracy of ±2.5%. The RQ800™ is capable of achieving speeds of 1,800 doses per hour with an accuracy of ±0.5%."

Companies from around the world submit entries to the annual AE50 competition and up to 50 of the best products are chosen by a panel of international engineering experts. The judges select products that will best advance engineering for the food and agriculture industries.

The AE50 award program is sponsored by Resource to emphasize the role of new products and systems in bringing advanced technology to the marketplace. These engineering developments help farmers, food processors and equipment manufacturers cut costs, enhance quality and increase profits.

Resource, a technical magazine geared to agricultural, biological and food system engineers worldwide, is produced at ASABE headquarters in St. Joseph, Michigan. The publication is read by thousands of professionals and others involved in the agricultural, food and biological industries.

Eco-Tip Semen Tube™

The Eco-Tip Semen Tube is made from super-thin, soft, flexible material. This ensures that the tube will collapse during insemination due to the uterine contractions of the sow and makes it unnecessary to apply pressure to the tube (squeezing) or to open a hole in the tube to allow air inside during insemination. The consistent tube wall thickness facilitates better sealing.

The end is an easy twist-off that allows it to be opened without the use of tools. After opening, the tip stays attached to the tube body without interfering with attachment to the insemination catheter. This prevents the tip from contaminating the pit and subsequently the environment. A larger spout opening and slight spout taper means the tube will fit more tightly into the catheter than competing brands and allows for better semen flow during insemination. Textured sides make the tubes separate easily from the stack when used in automated filling machines (less incidence of two tubes getting stuck together).

The tubes are available in 7 colors. This tube is suitable for use in all manual filling stations and automated machines.
